Hello I’m Donna, and welcome to my first craft blog entry.
I hope that you enjoy your time on my site, whether you are looking for something specific or just browsing.
First things first
Ok, I have a confession. I have a terrible habit of acquiring crafting supplies. (Much to the irk of my long suffering husband!)
I have a magpie-esque tendency to gravitate towards anything new and shiny I come across in the crafting world. It may be pretty fabric, some nice paper, unusual yarn or a fancy new gadget, but it’s always something.
Of course this means I have a LOT of random craft supplies.
I often start new projects with my recent acquisitions in earnest…but I often allow half finished craft projects to be left languishing in the back of a cupboard because a new shiny craft supply has caught my eye.
I do finish craft projects, honest!
But this isn’t the case with all projects I start! Usually, if they are being made to a deadline, I always push to get them completed. It seems I usually work best under pressure! Like the knitted blanket I HAD to finish in time for my daughter’s birth. (I went into labour later in the evening I finished it!) Or the crochet amigurumi panda she wanted for her birthday.
One year I thought it would be a good idea to make Mario mushroom plushies for my eldest’s birthday party, to give as to guests. But I started the day before the party, believing it wouldn’t take that long. That was a looooong night!
My parents love Pink Floyd, and paid for the family to see The Wall live in concert. As a thank you, I made them a sock puppet ‘Teacher’. For Halloween 2019 I thought it would be a good idea to build a 7 foot skeleton reindeer. He was constructed from cardboard, masking tape and expanding foam!
More recently, I built a 9 foot Christmas Nutcracker from cardboard for the first Big Craft Along Challenge! Check him out in the Big Craft Along Challenge week 1 results video on my Youtube channel. He was huge!
Keeping myself in check
My inspiration to start Bramble and Finch was as a way to push myself creatively.
Putting myself out into the public domain via this craft blog, I hope will give me the extra push I need to complete projects in time so I can post updates regularly. I want to be accountable to myself, and actually finish (well, in a perfect world!) all of the projects I set out to make!
All types of craft are fair game
The media I publish on this site will cover a wide range of crafting styles and materials. I am not happy to confine myself to a specific medium, for example sewing. As I like to dabble in a bit of anything and everything!
I don’t try to pass myself off as an expert of any kind, and claim to know better than others. However, I humbly offer what I have learned from my own experience, my opinions as a crafter, and creative ideas to those that wish to make use of it.
If you have a similar craft supply hoarding issue as me, then I hope this site encourages you to put your craft stash to work as well.
I hope you find some inspiring project briefs in The Big Craft Along Challenge section.
However, if you are new to the wonderful world of crafting, or would like to try out a new medium but are unsure where to start, why not check out my crafting tutorials and craft supply reviews?
Happy crafting!
Hello! I watched some videos from your youtube channel that you mentioned in your article and I liked what you do.
In order to gain popularity I would advise you to work on your videos, namely to do some editing.
I personally use this editor for my home videos, because in my opinion it is the most convenient when compared to other analogues.
I think you will be able to gain an audience.
