How to crochet: The basics - Chain Stitch

Everyone has to start somewhere when they learn a new hobby. It's very easy to forget that when starting out - even the simple skills that you do without thinking after lots of practice need to be learned at first.

The second installment in my mini tutorial series is The Chain Stitch.

After creating a slip knot on your hook, with most projects the next process is to create a chain stitches. The purpose of chain stitches are to create the base for your project, upon which future stitches are worked from.

Chain stitches have many uses, and you will find that most projects use them frequently throughout. One example, is when crocheting panels and the work requires turning – many patterns call for a ch1 or ch2 (chain 1 stitch/chain 2 stitches) in order to create a turning chain.

I know that everyone learns differently, and so I have included an infographic with a written description that you can find below, as well as a link to a short video clip demonstrating several chain stitches, which you can watch here.
